Her Notebooks

Clifton's journal entries, especially the first two, are formatted identical to her poems; perhaps using her journals for smaller poems rather than inner thoughts. Note the lack of error and relative neatness of each entry. Even her last notebook, consisting only of two lists and small poem for an associate, has her messiest handwriting, yet no stricken words or marks; as if her subconscious mind had more certainty than her conscious one.
